Day 30 - Your favourite song at this time last year

According to LJ, the songs I was listening to at this time last year were...
(With me, the songs I'm listening to are generally my favourites at the time, so this works :D)

one

Home by Dishwalla. This is a beautiful, comforting song. It's one of the happier songs in my gigantic iTunes. I like it.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Destiny - Syntax. This song is intense! I love the beat, I'm not so fond of the lyrics - I'm not a determinist, I don't believe that we don't have a choice - but the song's great to listen to :D

youtube )
lyrics )

And, since I can't believe that I haven't added a single Florence + The Machine song in these thirty days:-

bonus!

Breath Of Life by Florence + The Machine. Florence has a choir backing her, and the choir still fades in comparison with her voice. This is the song that made me fall in love with the band. I haven't linked to the official video because the song's been edited down to three and something minutes when it's actually four and something minutes.

youtube )
lyrics )

And it's over. :'(

Day 29 - A song from your childhood

There were SUCH shitty songs in my childhood, OMG.

one

Asereje by Las Ketchup. I did the freaking dance. There is photographic evidence of it. I am embarrassed.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Kaanta Laga by DJ Doll.

please don't listen to this shit what the fuck even is going on in the video i don't even..... WHY WAS I EXPOSED TO THIS SHIT AS AN INNOCENT CHILD???

I disown my childhood self. This is unbelievable. This cannot have been my first favourite song.

I hate to do this...

youtube )
Skipping the lyrics because I think that'll just make it worse for me.

And I've been ignoring the end for so long, MEME PLEASE DON'T GO. *cries*

Day 27 - A song that you wish you could play

one

All Of Me, composed by Jon Schmidt, performed by thepianoguys. Never happening. NEVER D:

youtube )
No lyrics :)

two

Any part of August's Rhapsody by Mark Mancina. I haven't tried playing it yet, probably won't either, but damn, is this piece of music gorgeous or what.

youtube )
No lyrics :)

Day 26 - A song that you can play on an instrument

one

Bella's Lullaby by Carter Burwell. Yes, yes, I know, Twilight movie, shitty romance, but if there's one thing that series of movies did right, it's the soundtrack.

I can play the piano part till about 20 seconds from the end - it has some really big chords that my hands aren't big enough for :P

youtube )
No lyrics :P

two

Boston by Augustana. This is a gorgeous goddamn song!! I am so proud to be able to manage to play even snatches of the piano part.

youtube )

Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh

one

Watch Out For This by Major Lazer. I have no idea what the hell is going on in this song, but whatever it is, it's sort of funny? IDEK how a song can be funny, but I suppose this comes close.

youtube )
I have no idea what's going on in the lyrics, so I'm skipping them :P

two

Beautiful Liar by Beyonce and Shakira. The song itself isn't funny, but there's this bit in the video where Beyonce and Shakira switch places in between camera cuts/takes/whatever the hell you call those things and you can't keep track of them - this is approximately between 2:30 and 3:00. Again, not funny, but kinda freaky. :P I like it!

youtube )

Um. I guess I don't listen to funny music?
s2309: (Sapphire)
Day 24 - A song that you want to play at your funeral

one

Angels by Augustana. The feel of this song is the feel I want at my funeral. It's perfect.

youtube )
lyrics - very repetitive, but also very peaceful )

two

Blue Sunshine - Brandon Chandler. This is my idea of heaven. It's beautiful.

youtube )
lyrics )

three

Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World. I hope I leave at least one person behind who thinks this of me. Or maybe none. I don't know. But the song's beautiful anyhow, so yay!

Day 23 - A song that you want to play at your wedding

I don't plan on getting married, so I'm going to interpret this as a song that describes my romantic hopes and dreams.

one

Everything Has Changed by Taylor Swift, featuring Ed Sheeran.

I'm a Swiftie, OK? And I have serious feels for this song. And the video is completely adorable. And I love it!

I think what I like about the song is the simplicity. It's not complicated love, it's not overly romantic, it's not grand gestures, it's two people singing about getting to know each other. And I'd like that. I'd like it to be easy. I don't want difficult and painful and complicated, I want simple.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Somewhere Only We Know, as covered by Lily Allen. This is probably only here because it's a piano heavy song, but whatever.

This isn't quite a lovesong, but it's about the kind of relationship I want, someday. It's not explicit in the lyrics, but I hear about a relationship built on mutual faith, trust, all the good things, basically.

Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting tired and I need someone to rely on.

youtube )
lyrics )

three

Tell Her You Love Her by Echosmith. All of it. I just... all of it. To me, it subtly explains how I'm very breakable and how I don't get over stuff easily and it's everything I want and need and whatever and it's just perfect. It helps that the lead singer has a really, really lovely voice.

This song also reminds me that one person can't prop up a relationship, can't do all the work. It has to be both of them. Which is odd, considering the lyrics, but whatever, brain vomit :P

youtube )

lyrics )

ETA: Oops, accidentally linked to Lady Antebellum's Dancing Away With My Heart instead of the Echosmith song. I think it's fixed now :D
s2309: (Sapphire)
Ahh, I forgot again. I think this is my subconscious pushing Day 22 as far away as possible.

Day 21 - A song that you listen to when you’re happy

one

Blue by Beyonce. The happy is uncomplicated, you know? It's peaceful and light and perfect background music for writing.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Here With Me by Susie Suh and Robot Koch. This doesn't exactly seem happy on first listen, but I think it sort of walks the fine like between happy and sad. I find it more happy than sad, mostly because I equate the slow, steady background beat with happy and the lyrics just wash over me, the words not quite registering.

Day 20 - A song that you listen to when you’re angry

one

Seether is my favourite angry artist, and Pride is my usual fallback when I'm angry. And despite the fact that I thoroughly loathe the use of the word 'rape', it is a very good angry song.

youtube )
lyrics - these have more curses than is the norm for the music i generally listen to. )

two

Fuck You by Lily Allen. This is not actually a song that I listen to when I'm angry, this is more of a theoretical "oh yeah, that seems like the kind of song I should listen to when I'm pissed off." Because seriously, if I actually listened to this song when I was angry, I'd stop being angry and start grinning like a maniac.

Day 19 - A song from your favourite album

one

As of right now, Beyonce's BEYONCE is my favourite album. I don't have a favourite song - all the songs are too brilliant. My favourite song from the album as of right now would be Superpower featuring Frank Ocean. I never thought I'd come to like this song - there was something about the tone or the beat or something that didn't sit well with me on first listen, but now I can't get enough of it.

And I thought the world would revolve without us.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Despite still not having all the feels for Christina Perri's Head Or Heart, I am still madly in love with lovestrong.. (yes, that second full stop is necessary. the album name has a full stop.) I've already used my favourite songs in the meme, and the others are popular, so here's a song from her Ocean Way Sessions EP that sadly didn't make the album but is awesome regardless. Yes, I do not think straight. But Daydream by CP reminds me so much of this album that half the time, I think it's on the album, so technically it is a part of what makes this album my favourite. That's a logical explanation. Yes, ma'am.

So, um, I failed at posting yesterday. But! I wrote about 2500 words that are a part of a longer story that will hopefully see the light of journal soon. So, forgiven?

Day 18 - A song that you wish you heard on the radio

There are boatloads of songs that I wish were played more on the radio, but I'll just stick to the two I'm switching between today.

one

New Day by Kate Havnevik. I like the intro well enough, but I only really fall in love with this song at about 1:44. It's lovely.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Cello Song by The Books featuring Jose Gonzalez. I'd been hunting for this song two days ago and making no headway till I remembered that it had been in the background of The Blacklist. It's beautiful.

youtube )
lyrics )

Question - What do you think Neal's afraid of? This is for the story I referenced above - I want to scare the shit out of him, but he doesn't scare easy. Generally, specifically, whatever. Thanks in advance!

Day 17 - A song that you hear often on the radio

Luckily, I just listened to the radio today, so I don't know about often, but I did hear these songs on the radio, so yeah. Hope that counts!

one

Stay by Rihanna ft. Mikky Ekko. OMG, this is the first time in this meme that there's a featured artist. How did that happen?

Anyhow. Beautiful song, lovely voices.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Addicted To You by Avicii. Not much to say about this song, except that through it, I discovered Audra Mae, who has a really fabulous voice (she gave uncredited vocals for the song)

youtube )
lyrics )

...do you get the feeling that I rushed through this?

Part two. The Matt Bomer Is Hot part. The only reason why you're here.

Just when I was clinging to the last of my fading crush on Matt Bomer and wondering if I was really, truly, done with him (major crisis over the mast few days, I was panicking big time), I came across these pictures, and I kid you not, he fucked with my breathing. I;m not breathless, breathless isn't the right word. It's more like I'm incredibly conscious of every breath I take. I cannot believe I haven't seen these before. I just... LOOK AT HIM.

cut for MB's sexiness. MB's sexiness in this requires a warning. )

I can't believe I ever even doubted the crush.

Maybe it's the shadows, maybe it's his brood. He's just... really, really sexy in these pictures. Whew.

I'm gonna... go feast my eyes a little more.

afterthought - hmmm, addicted to you is really perfect in this context, isn't it?
s2309: (Sapphire)
Day 16 - A song that you used to love but now hate

This is seriously late, but i was doing stuff all through the day, so yeah :P

one

If I Die Young by The Band Perry. I used to be quite fond of the song, it has a pleasant feel, it has interesting lyrics, and even though the concept isn't exactly appealing, it's a song worth listening to. But i sort of feel like I lost touch with it somehow. I don't know how to explain it, except in that I used to get the song completely, and now I don't at all. I don't feel anything while listening to this song anymore :(

youtube )
lyrics )

two

I don't know about love and hate, but I used to be pretty fond of Perfect Two by Auburn. Now all it does is set me on edge :P Maybe it's that it's too sweet? IDK.

Day 14 - A song that no one would expect you to love

That's a tough one. I'm fond of most genres of music, and the ones I don't enjoy I avoid like a teetotaler. I can only think of Emika - I hated dubstep with a vengeance before I heard her sound. But again, I haven't ventured out of my sake little Emika corner, haven't explored dubstep any more than that. Lights Go Down by Emika is absolutely lovely, and I suppose it qualifies as dubstep, though I'm not entirely sure.

...okay, quick google, it's deep house, but house is another genre I haven't quite explored, so it still counts.

...okay, checked the comments on the vid I embedded, it counts as both house and dubstep. I was right!

([livejournal.com profile] reve_silencieux, i'm aware that i'm addicted to research, stop cackling in the background)

youtube )
(no lyrics, not much vocal. this is not normal for me.)

I guess Polica could count for this day too. Their sound is very alt rock and synthpop (Hurts is usually filed under the same genres) but their sound is not the kind I usually chase. Violent Games by them is pretty awesome.

youtube )
lyrics. note - very repetitive )
s2309: (Sapphire)
Day 13 - A song that is a guilty pleasure

Most old songs are kinda sorta guilty pleasures for me - I love some (*some*, not all) of the sounds, and at the same time, I can't help but think "this music is so not mine." It feels a little like theft or something, IDEK. But here goes!

one

Ella Fitzgerald's version of Sunshine of Your Love. This song has to be the sexiest thing ever. The voice, the instrumentation, the feel of it... It's absolutely gorgeous, I love it.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Cold by Annie Lennox is my kind of song - slow, sad, minimal. I think my neighbour recced me this one a couple months back (along with a whole bunch of other Annie Lennox songs - this one caught my ear).

youtube )
lyrics )

In other music stuff, I've been listening to a lot of acoustic lately. Like, oh, look, that song i know and love has an acoustic version, let's go listen! (about fifteen times over, for about fifteen different songs, lol) It's like falling in love with something familiar all over again, it's lovely :3
s2309: (Sapphire)
Day 12 - A song from a band you hate

I'm pretty sure One Direction is the only band I really hate. But even they have some half decent songs.

one

Story Of My Life is pretty good (the song, not the vid).

youtube )
lyrics )

two

So is Little Things.

youtube )
lyrics )

I don't really have much to say about these songs. Mostly I hold them up like trophies saying, "See, I can listen to popular pop!" also i maybe cried a little bit the first time i heard little things don't judge i'm a little insecure despite not really being fat okay?

Oh, also. Remember Antebellum by Vienna Teng? That song I mentioned that captured my angsty shippy N/S feels? Now it doesn't. Because I'm listening to it right now and I'm suddenly totally convinced it's about lesbians. I don't know how that happened, but it happened. Hmmm. Diana/Christie maybe? IDEK.
s2309: (Sapphire)
Day 11 - A song from your favourite band

Bands!! As usual, I can't pick just one, so here's my two absolute favourites :D

Hurts

This band is yet another reason why I'm so happy to be in the White Collar fandom. I heard Illuminated by Hurts in the background of a Neal/Sara vid and immediately fell in love. It's beautiful and haunting and brilliantly walks that fine line between happy and angsty.

The video I've embedded below is a live version because that's the only one they have on their official channel. I would have linked to a lyric video, but OMG, that live version is absolutely gorgeous. If you want to listen to the original studio version, the Neal/Sara vid I linked to above should do the trick :).

youtube )
lyrics )

Seether

I have absolutely no idea why I like this band. It's a rock band, the lead singer growls more than he sings (for the most part), this isn't my usual kind of music. But beyond the growling, there's music that comes from emotion. I can feel it. That's why I love them.

It was so difficult to pick a song by them, omg. No Jesus Christ has an incredibly sexy guitar beat, Pride reminds me a little bit of Neal, Sold Me has this crazy jumping-from-ear-to-ear guitar bit.

I'm gonna have to pick Master of Disaster. It's another song that vaguely but not quite makes me think of Neal. I think of this song as Promises.

youtube )

s2309: (Sapphire)
Day 10 - A song that makes you fall asleep

I have a thirty minute playlist that I listen to every night. Usually fall asleep about 25 minutes in. Here's a couple of my favourites off that playlist.

one

State Of Grace (Acoustic) by Taylor Swift. The acoustic version is much more visceral than the original. Maybe it's because I've always preferred piano and guitar over other instruments, maybe it's that this is more soothing than the original, I don't know. But every time someone gives me odd looks for meing a Swiftie, this is one of the first songs I think of.

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Lullabye For A Stormy Night by Vienna Teng. It shows rain as something to be afraid of, which I don't agree with, rain is gorgeous, but it's a lovely song. It's very... floaty - I feel weightless when I listen to it.

This one night, I was studying for an exam that was the next day, and it started pouring. I figured it was the best occasion to listen to this song. It was pretty good, that night. Peaceful. I didn't feel like i was in the middle of exams. Maybe that's why I usually fall asleep about when this song plays.

youtube )

Day 09 - A song that you can dance to

Ahahaha. I have the weirdest tastes in dance music. This one birthday party, I had to pick a bunch of songs for people to dance to, and I was having a great time, but most people were like, you can't dance to that! Anyhow.

one

Brand New Bitch by Anjulie is one of my favourites. It's not my usual kind of song, which is probably what makes me like it. It's fun and cute and has a pretty cool beat :D

The video is a little 'what?' but it's fun :P

youtube )
lyrics )

two

Gold On The Ceiling by The Black Keys. The guitar is really sexy. I heard it in the gym this one time, on the music video channel that we usually keep going in the background, and I wanted to go home, download it, hide in my room and dance like a maniac :P

I had a hard time picking between this and Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes, but i figured this one's more danceable :P

youtube )
lyrics )
s2309: (Sapphire)
Day 08 - A song that you know all the words to

There are a lot of songs I know all the words to and listing them would take quite a while. So let's go with one happy, one sad :D

happy

Iridescent by Linkin Park. It starts out sort of sad, but it goes on to be hopeful and happy. I haven't heard it in a while, but I feel this song every time I hear it. Even now.

Not linking to the music video because that has a version with more than the piano, which is insulting. The piano is perfect for this song, dammit!

youtube )
lyrics )

sad

Ronan by Taylor Swift has to get this spot. (yes, I'm a Swiftie, unfortunately. Can't help it, she's the first artist who sang in English whose music I really listened to). It is one of the saddest songs I've heard, which makes it really surprising that it comes from Taylor Swift. And the lyrics are gorgeous. Sometimes, when there's no iPod/phone/other music player, I sing this song to myself.
