30 Days Of Music - Day 3

Three days in and I'm already forgetting. This does not bode well.

Day 03 - A song that makes you happy

And apparently there are types of happy (because I love talking about music C:)

peaceful happy

Penguin by Christina Perri soothes me into this daze where everything is pleasant and nothing goes wrong and there is much happy in the world.

instant smile on face happy

You're The Only One by Maria Mena. It's cheerful and fun and she sing-talks really really fast and it spins my head around in circles and I love it :D

dance around the room looking mildly insane happy

Skies On Fire by The Green Children. It's not exactly a danceable song, or a mildly insane song, it could actually be called sad, but it just makes me wildly happy every time I listen to it, so it counts. I'm not sure, but it *sounds* like it's got a xylophone-like accompaniment. Whatever it is, I dig it :D

30 Days Of Music - Day 4

Day 04 - A song that makes you sad

I know a LOT of sad songs. Most of my music library is sad songs (or used to be, my hard drive crashed, DAMN YOU HARD DRIVE). I'm not going to go into the sad songs that can always make me sad right now, I'm saving those for a later day of this meme, so I'll just pick a couple of random sad songs that I've been listening to lately.

one

Bittersweet Tragedy by Melanie Martinez is almost eerie in its melancholy. Melanie Martinez does this thing where she uses childlike images to convey mature themes - a carousel as a simile/metaphor for a relationship, children's toy sounds in the background of a song in which she describes mentally "killing" her ex. I am completely in love with it. Some of the lines, because of/despite the images she uses, are so wonderfully evocative. I think my favourite lines of this entire song have to be One kiss was supposed to be so sweet/But I found grapefruit in your teeth.

two

I've been going back to Christina Perri's music quite a lot lately. The Lonely is, has been, will always be the most beautiful, most elegant sad song ever (to me, at least). It has a piano accompaniment (MAJOR selling point, I love the piano so much that I'm learning how to play it), and it has Christina Perri's raw, rough, lovely voice. (sorry about all the adjectives :P).

But seriously. I love this song.
