Day 05 - A song that reminds you of someone

real life

I've read a lot about mother daughter relationships. They're usually treated as almost idyllic, magical, rewarding, nurturing, unreal.

I don't have the most ideal relationship with my mother, but there are always those moments when it feels okay, like we don't need to go at each other all the time, like we can actually talk to each other like civil human beings. Most of the time, those moments feel too few and far between, separated by a few fights and lots of uneven ground.

Arms by Christina Perri reminds me why I haven't run away already. Because I love her. And even though it describes a romantic relationship, some of the lines are absolutely perfect for us. Especially these - I'll never let our love get so close/You put your arms around me and I'm home.

fictional characters

I hereby declare that fictional characters count for this thing.

There's two songs by The Civil Wars that make me think of White Collar. Poison and Wine hits me straight in the Neal&Peter feels, Dust To Dust warms my shippy N/S heart. I'm going with neither of those, because I've already talked about them (see the links above C: )

Antebellum by Vienna Teng is another song that immediately makes me think of Neal and Sara. As impractical as it is, as much as constant war isn't a basis for a long term relationship, I see Neal and Sara as being capable of hurting each other because of the 'sparks' they give off when they're together. It's wonderful when the sparks give way to romance, as they do in the show, but, in some alternate universe, there is always the possibility of the sparks overshadowing, even killing, the romance.

This is the song I listen to when I'm in that masochistic mood where, as much as your ship not working out hurts, it also feels absolutely right in the moment.
