30 Days Of Music - Day 10
Day 10 - A song that makes you fall asleep
I have a thirty minute playlist that I listen to every night. Usually fall asleep about 25 minutes in. Here's a couple of my favourites off that playlist.
one
State Of Grace (Acoustic) by Taylor Swift. The acoustic version is much more visceral than the original. Maybe it's because I've always preferred piano and guitar over other instruments, maybe it's that this is more soothing than the original, I don't know. But every time someone gives me odd looks for meing a Swiftie, this is one of the first songs I think of.
I'm walking fast through the traffic lights
Busy streets and busy lives
And all we know
Is touch and go
We are alone with our changing minds
We fall in love 'til it hurts or bleeds or fades in time
And I never saw you coming
And I'll never be the same
You come around and the armor falls
Pierce the room like a cannonball
Now all we know is don't let go
We are alone, just you and me
Up in your room and our slates are clean
Just twin fire signs
Four blue eyes
So you were never a saint
And I’ve loved in shades of wrong
We learn to live with the pain
Mosaic broken hearts
But this love is brave and wild
And I never {[x8:] Oh oh, oh oh oh-oh-oh-ooh} saw you coming
And I'll never be the same
This is a state of grace
This is the worthwhile fight
Love is a ruthless game
Unless you play it good and right
These are the hands of fate
You're my Achilles heel
This is the golden age of something good and right and real
And I never saw you coming
And I'll never be the same
And I never {[x8:] Oh oh, oh oh oh-oh-oh-ooh} saw you coming
And I'll never be the same
This is a state of grace
This is the worthwhile fight
Love is a ruthless game
Unless you play it good and right

Lullabye For A Stormy Night by Vienna Teng. It shows rain as something to be afraid of, which I don't agree with, rain is gorgeous, but it's a lovely song. It's very... floaty - I feel weightless when I listen to it.
This one night, I was studying for an exam that was the next day, and it started pouring. I figured it was the best occasion to listen to this song. It was pretty good, that night. Peaceful. I didn't feel like i was in the middle of exams. Maybe that's why I usually fall asleep about when this song plays.
Little child, be not afraid
The rain pounds harsh against the glass
Like an unwanted stranger
There is no danger
I am here tonight
Little child
Be not afraid
Though thunder explodes
And lightning flash
Illuminates your tearstained face
I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning
Little child
Be not afraid
The storm clouds mask your beloved moon
And its candlelight beams
Still keep pleasant dreams
I am here tonight
Little child
Be not afraid
The wind makes creatures of our trees
And the branches to hands
They're not real, understand
And I am here tonight
And someday you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forest and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning
For you know, once even I
Was a little child
And I was afraid
But a gentle someone always came
To dry all my tears
Trade sweet sleep the fears
And to give a kiss goodnight
Well, now I am grown
And these years have shown
Rain's a part of how life goes
But it's dark and it's late
So I'll hold you and wait
'til your frightened eyes do close
And I hope that you'll know
That nature is so
This same rain that draws you near me
Falls on rivers and land
And forests and sand
Makes the beautiful world that you see
In the morning
Everything's fine in the morning
The rain will be gone in the morning
But I'll still be here in the morning
