I pretty much agree with everything you said. The thing is, Neal's rarely, if not never, properly dealt with all the consequences of his actions, and I'd like to think that this time, he does deal with them. But it hurts him so much! But I'm still a little mad at him, so.
And I completely agree that it was necessary - in fact, one of the S6 tags I may or may not write is the one in which Neal is unable to go through with it and everything goes to hell because Panthers.
But then again, I think writing this kind of finale tag is the only way I'll be able to properly forgive him, because what he did was cruel, and he should know. (Though I'll give him a happy ending C:).
