I do enjoy a very AU fanfic from time to time, provided that it's well-written... same as I occasionally enjoy fanfics with OOC characters, if the story is interesting enough. But generally I prefer canon divergences and characters who are still recognisably themselves (and then watching them make those different choices and how that affects them).
LOL, it's a long series (over 70k words, so make sure you have a free afternoon if you want to read it :D ) Anyway, the Conspiracies series is one of those cases where Mozzie is obviously very much shaped through his different experiences (Neal and Peter are much closer to their canon selves, since the changes in their lives haven't been nowhere near as significant as for Moz). The relationship between Neal and Moz is also affected by the changes, although it's just as strong. Part of the joy and challenge of writing this series was to see more and more of "our" Moz emerge as a consequence to certain circumstances (the story goes very dark in the sequel BTW. Some ugly things happen. And then there's our characters who just care about each other so much and have to get through that shit. (There's also about a million plotholes. Definitely proves that I have a lot to learn when it comes to a heavily plot-driven fic...))
If you ever look for it, most of my fics are on my Master list (apart from the newest ones).
