This is the first part of a four part series. It can also be read as a stand-alone

New York.

Some people said it was a city like any other. Neal knew better.

It was a city in which dreams came true; it was a city in which dreams were destroyed. It was a city designed on Darwin’s ‘Survival of the Fittest’ concept, and Neal was a survivor.

He’d made it through years of living a lie and pretending he was someone he wasn’t. He wasn’t a good boy. He was the son of a cop killer.

St. Louis was no place for the son of a cop-killer.

But in New York, people would make room for one.

That last line really set a different tone for this. Nicely done. And welcome to WhiteCollar100.

I am impressed. I usually feel 100 words don't get a lot across, but this gave me a little shudder. It really made you go, 'oh, wow' and reread just to make sure you caught all the little nuisances. And personally, I hope Neal finally learns he is not his father and moves past that guilt and stigma. I just want to hug him!

It wasn't an easy decision for him.
Thank you so much for reading!

I love how this is vague enough that this could be neal present day or just leaving st Louis or having been in nyc for a short time. I love the almost stoic sadness in the last line.

I didn't notice that! I intended it to be just after he'd arrived, but it's 100 words, so I guess it didn't come across ^.^
Thank you for reading!
