Date: 2014-08-23 08:07 pm (UTC)TBH, I rarely think consciously of tropes, but I'm pretty sure all the tropes in this category are H/C tropes I want to inflict on Neal :P :D A for instance... I don't think I've ever properly written Neal throwing himself in front of a gun/knife/other damage inflicting weapon for someone else. That could be fun :D
3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?
Most horror/fantasy AUs. I'll read them (I assume that's excluded from 'won't touch with a ten foot pole C: ) but I don't think I'd ever want to write, say, zombie!Neal. Or zombie!anyone, for that matter.
23. If you were to revise one of your older fics from start to finish, which would it be and why?
All of them. No, really. Except for the most recent ones, which are still probably passable, I'd like to take a chainsaw to most, if not absolutely all, of my writing. For one thing, most of my short fic is written, tidied up and posted within the same 24 hours, which means there are better ways to write them, goddammit. And then there's the clumsy phrasing and poor descriptions that creep in that really just need to be axed. So yeah. I'm a bit of a cannibal when it comes to my own fic :P
29. If you could write the sequel (or prequel) to any fic out there not written by yourself, which would you choose?
Ooh, tough one. Hmmm... I think I'd pick Failed Angel, which I discovered back in my ff.net Harry Potter days. This fic is the first that really, truly shattered my heart, and I'd love to explore Draco's life after the events of this fic. (i'm a diehard Dramione shipper :P :D)

Date: 2014-08-23 08:20 pm (UTC)Somehow I'm not surprised you'd axe all of them. :D Maybe you should impose a one day delay on all posting just to give you time to think things over.
Harry Potter, really? I did not see that coming. Interesting...

Date: 2014-08-23 08:25 pm (UTC)Apocalyptic fic is actually quite intriguing sometimes, it's just when it's tied up with supernatural stuff that I lose interest.
Am I really that predictable? :P

Date: 2014-08-24 11:40 am (UTC)A one shot, usually less than 2k, with oodles and oodles of angst. I'm a bit of an angst junkie :P Usually Neal+Peter or Neal/Sara, or an angsty character study. Basically, angst :D
4. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Care to share one of them?
OMG, don't even get me started on this one. I have so many different ideas, and I'm so terrified that none of them will get written down because I suck at longfic :(
The standout of the lot is this giant massive rethinking of Neal's entire life. I have a plot going from when he's 18 and has just arrived in NYC till
his deatha happily ever after. It's a bit of a what if - if Neal and Moz don't team up, how would Neal's life go?26. Do you beta yourself? If so, what kind of beta are you?
Yes, I do. And, as I mentioned above, I'm a bit of a cannibal when it comes to my own work :P If I'm not happy with something, I rip it apart and rewrite, doesn't matter if it's huge chunks, doesn't matter if it's the entire story. Unless I don't feel at least halfway okay about my work, I don't post.
With my own fic, I'm usually very quick. 'When in doubt, cut and rewrite' tends to be the principal under which I operate, so I don't usually get stuck on one little detail.
And usually, if this is a short fic that doesn't have problems, the whole writing-and-editing process takes under 24 hours. If I'm nervous about something, I get someone to preread and hold my hand.
35. Would you ever kill off a canon character?
My enabler will probably kill me for this (ha), but yes, I would. Don't get me wrong, I'd be sobbing right along with all the characters left behind, but yes, I think I could. I actually have very tentative plans to end one of my unwritten ideas with a deathfic, but I'll probably scrap it because it's too damn sad.

Date: 2014-08-24 11:50 am (UTC)Gosh, I don't know. That's a slightly intimidating thought. I'd insist on directing, though, or at least being in the background and making sure everything goes the way I saw it (I sort of 'see' my fics while writing them, and any divergence from that would be greatly upsetting).
I think I'd pick When All Else In You Turns And Runs, if for no reason other than that it's the most recent, and I still have very clear pictures in my head, and there's that thing about how your writing gets better as you go on, right? So logically, that should be a good fic to pick. Or maybe Counting The Steps Back To Safe - I think that's my favourite thing I've written.
19. Stephen King once said that his muse is a man who lives in the basement. Do you have a muse?
Yes, in a sense. My muse is tied to music. No, really. Almost every fic I've written has a song that captures the mood of the story, if not the essence of it. I need to be able to feel my fic in order to be able to write it, and so music is incredibly important to me during the writing process, and in that sense, my music is my muse.
20. Describe your perfect writing conditions.
No stress from school or anything else, no sound but my music, this sort of selective access to the internet where I can research things I need but get cut off quickly so I don't get sucked in, my desktop (I have an inexplicable, undying love for my desktop, I cant stand laptops), and rain outside. That's my writerly nirvana.

Date: 2014-08-24 12:04 pm (UTC)My dependence on music. It may not sound like a strength, but I feel like with exactly the right song, I can sort of get into the characters' moods, and that makes it easier to get into their heads. I sort of dimly feel what I write when I write it, and I think that makes the words just a little bit better than they might have been otherwise.
6. Share one of your weaknesses.
My writing process is very, very fast, usually 24 hours or less. That is a serious weakness because that means longfic is a massive uphill struggle for me. I have two or three incomplete longfics just lying around incomplete because even if I listen to the same song I listened to while I was writing them, I can't quite get into the right mood to complete them and post them. And that makes me very sad, because I have a lovely longfic idea, but if that's how my longfics end up, I'm not sure I want to even try.
8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
I'm very fond of all the dialogue in I Always Will. The dialogue really made that fic. I am amazed at the fact that I wrote humour, that probably won't quite happen again :P Also, I'm particularly proud of the fact that the dialogue doesn't look strange without tags (at least to me). I've been struggling with dialogue tags a bit lately, and it's nice to know that I could actually do that :)

Date: 2014-08-25 01:11 pm (UTC)The HC advent fic that I mentioned a few times in and after December. It's still in first draft state, it's got about 13k words and it refuses to cooperate with me anymore. I'd just delete it, but it was supposed to be for someone else and I still have hopes that one day I'll sit down and finish writing it and yeah. I'm a little castles in the air with that one :P
10. Which fic has been the easiest to write?
Most of the fic I post, honestly. My usual writing process is think about a vague idea for a few weeks, listen to a song that makes it all click into place, writewritewrite, wait for some time if it doesn't feel quite right, edit, post. Everything except the first step is usually done in under 24 hours.
24. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?
No, but I have locked a fic to just myself. I think about one person's seen it, and I don't plan on unlocking it because it was some time after exams, when i was still neck deep in my inability to form words and there was a landcomm that had a challenge going that required fic. So I wrote it and it was shit and I had my enabler look it over but besides that, it's still hidden away. And I'll probably just leave it that way.
33. How do you feel about crack?
I haven't written it yet, but it's so much fun to read! I've thoroughly enjoyed all the crack I've read. I don't know how to write it - my favourite genre is angst - but if I had an idea, I'd definitely write it down!

Date: 2014-08-25 01:22 pm (UTC)There's two, actually, 4x16 and 5x11.
4x16 because there's so much fic potential in that one episode, OMG. Various permutations of Neal and Sara in London, fic where she comes back (briefly or permanently), and also various Neal/Sara moments within the episode. I love those two :3
5x11 because of all the AU potential. I have various AUs in mind where Rachel makes it out without getting caught by the FBI, either with Neal as a human shield or otherwise, and proceeds to wreck Neal's life completely. I'm a huge fan of anything that can make Neal angst. I love angst. And I have said this for about the fifteenth time in three days. I am not usually so obvious about my love for Neal angst :P :D
21. How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
Once, maybe twice. If it's a drabble, I edit while I'm writing. I imagine that a longfic will take a lot more work, but I've never actually *finished* a longfic, so.
38. Talk about a review that made your day.
All the reviews on When All Else In You Turns And Runs. All of them. People were so generous with their time and words that the morning after I posted (I post at night and promptly fall asleep) I saw all the love in my inbox and it carried me on this cloud of happiness all day long. I'm still awed.

Date: 2014-08-25 02:13 pm (UTC)I can still keep writing Neal+Peter bromance and Neal and Rachel's whatever it is, right?Neal/Sara. I love writing the two of them together, and no matter how the show ends, I will somehow find a way for them to be together. I love them muchly :D
28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
From my days in the Alex Rider fandom, chariots99. She has a fabulous AU series pairing Alex with a spectacularly written OC and lots of crazy, dangerous adventures. Also, a series of hysterical drabbles. I love her humour and all the crazy plot.
From the Twilight fandom (yes, yes, i know, but apparently you can hate a book and still want to read fanfic for it), Amberdeengirl. She has the most beautiful ballet!AU that I love less for the plot and more for all the dancing and the music she sometimes mentions at various points in the fic. I also love her story featuring Alice Cullen, The Short Sugar Plum Fairy.
From the Harry Potter fandom, Jack Of Some Trades. I should preface this by saying that I have read exactly read one fic by Jack. But that one fic was The Dangers of Miscommunication, which is hilarious every single time I read it. I have to go read some of her other fics now, but seriously. That fic. I cannot get enough of it.
(can you see how I'm avoiding White Collar so I don't offend anyone?)
37. Talk about your current wips.
Oh, I have a lot of those. I have the giant bunny that's taken over my mind, the two longfics languishing from lack of attention, a few ideas that were dropped for no particular reason, and one that I still hope will see daylight.
One of the longfics is an AU from 5x11, in which Rachel uses Neal as a human shield to get out, and then essentially finds new and inventive ways to break Neal's heart. The other is an AU from 4x16, in which Peter doesn't get cleared, Neal isolates himself from everyone else and Elizabeth hurts Neal. And then everyone meets for Christmas dinner and everything's fixed :D
The giant bunny. Don't even get me started. It's sort of a rethinking of Neal's life course if he didn't team up with Moz. Neal still hates guns and life still throws shit at him. Except he doesn't have Moz to count on. So he ends up a little darker and less optimistic than the canon Neal.
The fic I hope to post soon is a Neal/Sara London story, told entirely from Sara's POV. It just needs a bit of a rewrite. Neal's POV is trying to sneak in, but I think I'll save that for an outtake, I want to stay in Sara's head for the duration of this fic :D
